Although digital audio cables have been around for almost 20 years, standardization of relevant indicators has not begun until recently. The American Society of Acoustic Engineering (AES) and the European Broadcasting union (EBU) have established a set of international standards called AES / EBU. The specific indicators are as follows:
Sampling rate: 32KHZ ~ 192KHZ
Bandwidth: 4.096MHZ ~ 24.5MHZ
Data rate: 3.072Mb / s
Characteristic impedance: 110Ω ± 20%
The key difference between digital audio twisted pair cable and standard analog audio twisted pair cable is the characteristic impedance index. AES / EBU has a wide tolerance range, and the characteristic impedance can range from 88 ohms to 132 ohms.
Standard analog audio cables have a characteristic impedance from 45 ohms to 70 ohms. This potential impedance mismatch can cause signal reflection and jitter at the receiving end. For this reason, Belden recommends the use of 100 to 120 ohm twisted-pair cables for digital audio transmission.
